چکیده

BACKGROUND The study was undertaken to compare the effects of small doses of sufentanil or pethidine on cardiovascular responses induced by tracheal intubation. METHODS Sixty ASA physical status I-II patients, scheduled for elective abdominal surgery under general anesthesia, were randomly allocated in a double blind fashion to receive an intravenous bolus of either sufentanil 0.1 microg/kg (Group S, n = 30) or pethidine 1.5 mg/kg (Group P, n = 30) for induction of anesthesia. The heart rate (HR), systolic arterial pressure (SAP), diastolic arterial pressure (DAP), and mean arterial pressure (MAP) were measured before induction of anesthesia (baseline), at 1-min intervals for 3 min after the induction of anesthesia, and at 1, 3, 5, and 7 min after start of laryngoscopy. RESULTS No significant differences in SAP, DAP, and MAP were observed between the two groups. Heart rate was significantly increased 2 and 3 minutes after induction of anesthesia and 1 minute after intubation in group P as compared to group S (P < 0.01). However, the numbers of patients who developed a heart rate increase more than 20% of basal value were not different between two groups. At the end of the study period, systolic, diastolic, and mean arterial pressure slightly decreased from preinduction values was transient and did not require treatment. CONCLUSIONS If adequate timing in opioid administration is warranted according to the time to peak effect of each opioid drug, small doses of sufentanil or pethidine could provide effective control of the inotropic response induced by laryngoscopy and tracheal intubation.

Effects of remifentanil and alfentanil on cardiovascular responses to tracheal intubation

Introduction: Laryngoscopy and tracheal intubation necessitate to start a surgery and induction of general anesthesia as well as the maintenance of the air way and to provide ventilation. However, Laryngoscopy and tracheal intubation may lead to hemodynamic response that appear with the symptoms of hypertension tachycardia, arrhythmia and myocardial ischemia and results in myocardial infarction...

Comparison of the Effect of Fentanyl, Sufentanil, Alfentanil and Remifentanil on Cardiovascular Response to Tracheal Intubation in Children

OBJECTIVE Laryngoscopy and tracheal intubation may cause significant cerebral and systemic hemodynamic responses. Many drugs have been shown to be effective in modifying these hemodynamic responses, including fentanyl, sufentanil, alfentanil and remifentanil. The purpose of the current study was to compare the efficacy of fentanyl, sufentanil, alfentanil and remifentanil on blunting cardiovascu...

Different small-dose sufentanil blunting cardiovascular responses to laryngoscopy and intubation in children: a randomized, double-blind comparison.

BACKGROUND Sufentanil is a potent opioid analgesic frequently used in clinical anaesthesia. This prospective, randomized, double-blind study was designed to assess the efficacy of different small-dose sufentanil attenuating the cardiovascular intubation response in healthy children, aiming at determining the optimal dose of sufentanil for this purpose. METHODS A total of 165 children aged 3-9...

Attenuation of the Pressor Response to Tracheal Intubation in Severe Preeclampsia: Relative Efficacies of Nitroglycerine Infusion, Sublingual Nifedipine, and Intravenous Hydralazine

BACKGROUND The pressor response to laryngoscopy is known to be exaggerated in patients with severe preeclampsia. OBJECTIVES The aim of the present study was to compare the efficacies of continuous intravenous (IV) infusion of nitroglycerine, IV hydralazine, or sublingual nifedipine in modifying cardiovascular responses to endotracheal intubation, in women with severe preeclampsia undergoing c...
